19th June 2018
Dear OWNZ Members,
The Executive Group and General Manager of OWNZ would like to sincerely apologise to the eight athletes who have been affected by the IWF’s decision of their ineligibility to compete at the 2018 Oceania Weightlifting Championships in Noumea. We regret not providing them with enough time to submit their whereabouts into the ADAMS system in accordance with Article 5.6.5 of the IWF Anti Doping Policy.
The Executive Group and the General Manager take complete responsibility. The IWF has never enforced their deadline criteria before this and unfortunately, this has impacted on our eight athletes plus another 31 entered into the Oceania competition, and more at the very recent Pan American Championships.
Please be assured we are taking all of the necessary measures so that this does not happen again. We will be sending a notification to all OWNZ members that outlines the due dates for whereabouts submissions for each international event remaining on the 2018 calendar and similar deadlines will be published for 2019 international events. An investigation into our selection processes will take place and revised processes will be announced as soon as possible and thereafter be enforced.
We deeply regret that this has happened and we are working with the eight athletes to provide individual compensation.
Once again, we are truly sorry.
The Executive Group & General Manager of OWNZ
